An Exceptional William and Mary Yew Wood Gateleg Table
Having a thick burr yew top of exceptional colour, with a thumb-moulded edge and two small drawers beneath, over a scroll-cut rail, which is repeated on the rail between the gates.
The complicated leg and stretcher turnings, again all from well-grained yew wood, would suggest the table was made by a turner rather than a joiner, and certainly for a family of substance, perhaps to show off their wealth.
Outstanding colour.
English, circa 1690.
Width 52 inches, depth 46 inches, height 31 inches.
