A Rare Charles II Oak Table with a Box Top
The twin boarded top, lifting on the original iron pin hinges, reveals a vacant interior with a single board forming the base.
The front, back and sides are panelled, each panel set in a frame decorated with run-mouldings, each face being identical, suggesting that the piece was intended to be seen from all sides (a centre table, rather than a side table).
The baluster legs have an intricate turned design to the top, and a slightly simpler one at the bottom. The legs are joined by plain stretchers.
Delightfully small proportions, excellent colour and surface.
English, circa 1660-1680.
Width 28.25 inches, back to front 17.5 inches, height 25.75 inches.
Ref 2968.
