A Small Charles II Oak Panelled Chest

The two panel lid set within a run moulded frame. The front with a thumb or gouge carved top rail, which is repeated around the sides. The centre muntin, which has a vertical line of guilloche carving, divides the two lozenge carved panels, which unusually have different stylised flowers to the centres. The panel to the right is a Tudor rose, whilst the panel to the left is a daisy head.

The gouge carved rail, guilloche muntin and lozenge panels are all typical of South Gloucestershire, circa 1660-80. The oak has a lovely original patina and mature colour.
