A Tremendous Charles I Oak Panel-back Armchair
Having great presence, the wonderfully carved back panel, with stylised scrolling vine, flowers and leaves, below an exceptionally tall scrolled cresting, between broad run-moulded uprights, terminating in bold turned finials.
The well-shaped down-curved arms, sitting on plain gun barrel supports, which continue through to the legs, terminating in block feet, joined by a run-moulded stretcher.
Fine, deep, rich colour and patina.
English, possibly Gloucestershire or Lancashire, circa 1635-40.
Height 47.5 inches, width 26 inches, seat depth 16 inches, depth from wall 26 inches.
